Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team bounced back on Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 win over Clarion.
How it Happened
The Lakers took the lead in just the 12th minute, Taryn Baxter netted her first goal of the year. After Clarion was called for a foul just outside the box Baxter took the free kick and made no mistake putting it over the wall of Golden Eagles and just over the keepers hands.
In the 23rd minute the Lakers extended their lead. Lauren Casey netted her third of the season after a beautiful feed from Amber Thomas who played it over the defenders. The Lakers had the early lead and weren't going to give it up.
Casey wasn't quite done either, in the 26th minute she made the Laker lead three. Baxter passed it up to Casey and she blasted it past the charging keeper for her second of the game.
The teams went into half with the Lakers up 3-0 and Mercyhurst outshooting the Golden Eagles 9-2.
In the 55th minute the Lakers extended their lead on another free kick. This time it was Thomas who netted her first goal of the season.
Mercyhurst dominated the final 45 as they did not allow Clarion to get a shot away. The Lakers outshot them 6-0 in the second half and 15-2 for the game.

Maddie Elbro notched her fourth clean sheet of the year. On Wednesday she needed to make just one save as the Laker defense core shutdown the Clarion attack. Elbro now has 36 saves this year and is allowing less then a goal per game. She has also stopped 88 percent of the shots she has face in 740 minutes.

The Lakers host IUP on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field starting at 4 PM. Mercyhurst then goes on a two game road trip to Cal (PA) and Edinboro.
