Box Score The Mercyhurst University Field Hockey team travelled to the campus of Mansfield University Wednesday afternoon to take on the Mountaineers at Karl Van Norman Field. Mansfield defeated the Lakers by a score of 7-0.
How It HappenedÂ
In the first, Mercyhurst and Mansfield drew a stalemate as neither team could find the back of the cage.
Libby Jones started in goal for the Lakers, she made two saves in the first to help keep the Mountaineers scoreless.
In the second quarter Mercyhurst had their best scoring opportunity of the game when
Jenna Cavalieri ripped a shot on goal off a Mercyhurst corner. Unfortunately, her shot was saved by the Mansfield defense. Mansfield took the lead eight minutes into the corner on a scorching shot, the Mountaineers led 1-0 at half.
In the second half Mansfield began to break away as they scored three goals in the third and three more in the fourth quarter.
Katie Goodenow and
Sarah Vosburgh led the Lakers with two shots each, both of Goodenow's were on target. Jones was credited with eight stops in net.
Next Up
Mercyhurst will again travel out east for another PSAC contest against West Chester on Saturday. The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.Â
