Erie, PA—The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team welcomed the Salem Tigers to Saxon Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers defeated the Tigers 3-0 to win their third straight match.
How it Happened
Nevado Elliott happened. Elliott opened the scoring in the 18th minute, he took a pass from Julius Becker and blasted it past the keeper from outside the box.
Elliott wasn't even close to being done, he scored his second of the match in the 20th minute. Dylan Sumner crossed ball into the box, Elliott adjusted and finished with his right foot on the volley to extend the lead to two.
The last goal of the hat trick came in the 32nd minute. Elliott gathered the ball after Salvador Rang headed the ball to him. Elliott used his right foot to put it past the keeper and secure the Lakers first hat trick since Oct. 26, 2019.
Jonathan Gomes earned his second straight clean sheet making one save in the win. The Lakers outshot the Tigers 33-3, 17 Laker shots found the goal.
Someone Cool That Man Off
Elliott has been a scoring machine in his last three game. Against UDC last Friday, he netted his first two goals as a Laker. On Wednesday, he scored the sixth Laker goal and on Saturday he netted a natural hat trick.
Coach's Corner
Head Coach Ryan Osborne was very happy with his teams performance today, "I am happy with today's result and performance. I thought we were professional from the beginning and did a good job of controlling the tempo of the game." Osborne is happy about how his team is playing but knows there's a lot of work to still do. "Winning the last 3 in a row is a good foundation to build on and now we know that Daemen is coming fast so we need to reset and be ready for that one," Osborne said.
