The Mercyhurst University Field Hockey team matched up against Lindenwood University on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers were defeated by a score of 2-1 in the teams first away action of the year.
The goal scoring began late into the first quarter when Lindenwood scored with 1:47 left in first.Â
The score would remain 1-0 Lindenwood going into halftime as both teams were held scoreless in the second quarter. Senior
Libby Jones made her first start in the cage this season for the Lakers. She made an impressive nine saves throughout the first half.
Mercyhurst's defense led by Jones, remained solid again in the third quarter holding the Lions scoreless. The Lakers were awarded a single corner in the quarter, however they just narrowly missed on the scoring opportunity.
Lindenwood added their second goal of the contest 2:19 into the fourth quarter. After possession was tossed back and forth. Mercyhurst's
Jenna Cavalieri released on a fast break all by herself. She passed to
Sarah Vosburgh at the last second and Vosburgh capitalized on the opportunity with 34 seconds remaining.
Next up for Mercyhurst will be Franklin Pierce University. The Lakers will look for their first win of the season on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
