Volleyball Drops Two Matches on Final Day of Cavalier Invitational

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Mercyhurst volleyball team dropped matches to host Walsh and Daemen by scores of 3-1 Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Cavalier Invitational. 

In the opener against Walsh, the Lakers dropped the first set 25-22. Mercyhurst knotted the match at a set apiece with a 25-22 victory of their own in the second. The Cavaliers took set three 25-22 before closing out the match 25-20 in the fourth. 

Three Lakers scored double-digit kills in the match led by Madison Kasper with 14. Beth Brady added 12 kills while Hailey Wilson 11. 

Anne Borah picked up four blocks while Kasper and Chase Cole each recorded three. Hannah Vuylsteke recorded 28 digs to lead the Lakers. Zoe Gadomski added 17 diges. 

In the nightcap, Daemen won the first 25-23 before the Lakers leveled the match with a 25-20 victory. The Wildcats went on to win sets three and four by scores of 25-19 and 25-20. 

Brady notched nine kills to lead the Laker offense. Alexa Mitchell paced Mercyhrust with 17 assists. 

Vuylsteke chipped in 18 digs while Brady and Cole each scored three blocks. 

The Lakers will return home for their first match in the newly renovated Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Friday. Mercyhurst will play host to West Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
