The Mercyhurst University Field Hockey team hosted Belmont Abbey College at Saxton Stadium Friday afternoon. The Lakers were defeated by the visiting Crusaders 5-0.

Belmont Abbey got on the scoreboard early and often. The visitors put up three goals on the scoreboard in the first quarter. They followed up with two additional goals in the second quarter.

Mercyhurst put up eight shots during the match with three of those being on target. Senior goalkeeper Libby Jones got her first action of the 2021 season. She was credited with three saves against five shots faced.

Up next for the Lakers is their first away game of the year as they travel to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO. That game will take place at 12:30 p.m on Sunday.
