Men's Soccer Splits Opening Day with No. 18 Gannon

Erie, PA—This afternoon the Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team took the pitch against No. 18 Gannon in their first games of the shorten spring season. The Lakers played two games with the second game featuring the development team.

In the first game the Lakers were able to come out on top by a score of 2-1.

In the 23rd minute, the Lakers were able to score the first goal of the game as Fabio Schortmann was able to record his first goal of the season. Salvador Rang took a corner kick and Schortmann was able to head it in to give the Lakers the 1-0 lead.

Gannon would tie the game at one in the 78th minute, it looked like opening match would end in draw.

However, in the 88th minute Tom Barry would take a cross from Schortmann and made no mistake as he put it past the Gannon keeper for the game winning goal.

Mercyhurst generated eight shots while Mattias Odelius made three saves in collegiate debut for the Lakers.

In the second game of the day, the development team fell to Gannon by a score of 4-0.
