ERIE, Pa. -- Despite a frantic third period comeback bid the Mercyhurst men's hockey team fell 2-1 at RIT Friday night.
The game got off to a slow start and entered the first intermission scoreless. RIT got on the board first at the 5:42 mark of the second period on a goal from Jake Hamacher. Alden Dupuis extended the lead less than four minutes later to send the Tigers into the second intermission up 2-0.
The Lakers carried play in the third and finally broke through with 6:04 to play when Geoff Kitt centered the puck from behind the net and found Brendan Schneider in the slot for his first collegiate goal.
Mercyhurst outshot the Tigers 15-7 in the third period and 32-23 for the game, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Kyle McClellan made his second start in net stopping 21 shots. Kitt paced the Lakers with six shots on goal.
The Lakers and Tigers will square off on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center at 5:05 p.m.
