ASHLAND, OH -- The Mercyhurst University Wrestling began their 2021-22 dual meet season at Ashland University's Kate's Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches against No. 8 Ashland and Davenport University.
In their first match against Davenport, the Lakers easily defeated the Panthers by a score of 47-4. Eric Bartos and Jacob Ruggeri represented the Lakers at 125 and 133, they each earned six points for Mercyhurst via forfeit.

Matthew Leehan, and
Max Stedeford all earn victories by way of pin for the Lakers.
Jacob Robb won a 6-1 decision at 285 while
Alexis Soriano picked up a 15-1 major decision. At 141.
Dillon Walker rounded off the scoring with a 14-2 major decision at 174.Â
In their second match of the day against host Ashland, the Lakers fell to the number eight ranked team in the country 27-14.
Eric Bartos picked up a pin at 133 in his first action of the year, the redshirt senior entered the weekend ranked ninth in the nation at 133. Soriano went 2-0 on the day as he won his match at 141 by decision, 12-8.
Jacob Robb capped off his day going 2-0 as well. Robb, who was recently ranked fifth nationally at 285, defeated Ty Petrey by technical fall.
Up next, the Lakers will travel to Painsville, Ohio next Saturday for a dual meet with Lake Erie College. The opening match is set for 6:00 p.m.
