Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's hockey team dropped their final game before the holiday break by a score of 7-4 to Miami (OH).
The Lakers opened the scoring just 4:23 into the game as Gueorgui Fedulov scored the first goal of the game. Steven Ipri and Jonathan Bendorf picked up assists on the play.
After taking the one goal lead, Miami scored twice with just over a minute apart to take the 2-1 lead. Mercyhurst went to the locker room down just one, Hank Johnson made 10 saves in the opening period.
Miami scored on their first two shots of the middle frame and had a three goal lead 3:13 into the second period. Kyle McClellan replaced Johnson in the Laker net after the fourth Redhawk goal.
Mercyhurst got one back with 3:02 remaining in the second period. Devon Daniels scored his first of the year after the puck deflected off a Redhawk and into the net. Paul Maust and Geoff Kitt earned points on the play.
Mercyhurst was once again outshot and were being outshot 24-18 after two periods. McClellan made 10 saves in the period.
Miami took their three goal lead back just 21 seconds into the third period.
The lethal Mercyhurst power play converted at the 3:38 mark as Josh McDougall beat the goalie with a wicked wrister off a Noah Kane faceoff win.
The Redhawks scored at the 8:48 mark to make it 6-3.
With under three minutes left and McClellan on the bench the Lakers scored another power-play goal to make it a two goal game once again. Kane and Owen Norton added assists on the play.
Miami iced the chance of a Laker comeback with an empty netter with 88 seconds left in the game.
McClellan made 18 saves in relief as the Lakers were outshot 35-30.
