Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer advanced to the PSAC Semi-Finals with a 2-0 win over Edinboro.
How it Happened
The Lakers opened the scoring in the 17th minute as Dani Hartman was fouled in the box as she attempted to cut to the middle of the box. Amber Thomas stepped to the spot and beat the keeper to make it 1-0 Lakers.
Mercyhurst and Edinboro entered the half with the Lakers outshooting Edinboro 13-1 and 8-1 in shots on goal.
In the second half the Lakers made their lead two as Karah Van Horn took a pass from Emily Mijares and raced into the box to created an quick two on one scoring chance. Van Horn went to pass it across the box but a defender got a foot on it and deflected into the net to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.
In the second half the Lakers continued to pepper Edinboro with shots, they had seven in final 45 while the Fighting Scots had just four with one finding Maddie Elbro.

On Saturday, the Lakers clinched their first PSAC West Regular Season Championship. In 2008, when they won the PSAC Championship they finished in second but ended up taking home the championship in their first season in the PSAC. With the win over Edinboro, Mercyhurst has advanced to their first PSAC Semi-Final since 2008.
The Streaks Roll On
The Lakers entered the game on a six-game winning streak while also earning clean sheets in five straight games. Mijares also continued her point streak as she tallied an assist. She has now been on the scoresheet for seven straight games and 10 of her last 11 games.

The Lakers will play the winner of Bloomsburg and West Chester at the highest remaining eastern team on Friday in the PSAC Semi-Final. The winner will advance to the PSAC Championship on Sunday. All games can be found on the PSAC Digital Network.
