The Mercyhurst University Volleyball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon as they made the trip down I-90 to take on the Fighting Scots of Edinboro. The Lakers dropped the match in four sets.
Edinboro jumped out early in the first set as they captured the first three points of the contest. The Fighting Scots would not trail for the duration of the set as they went on to take set number one by a score of 25-20. Madison Kasper led the Lakers offensively in the set with four kills. Hailey Wilson followed with three of her own.
As the second set unfolded, Edinboro again jumped out to an early lead. This time they took the first six points of the set. The Fighting Scots again held their lead for the duration of the set, taking their second set of the game 25-11.
Beth Brady notched two kills and a service ace in the set for Mercyhurst.
The Lakers stormed out in front during the third set,
Claire Kenny recorded an ace that extended Mercyhurst's early lead to 8-3. Edinboro fought back to make the set close however the Lakers prevailed to win the set 27-25. Brady had five kills to lead the Lakers in the set.
In the fourth set, Edinboro controlled the majority of the set. Mercyhurst rattled off eight straight points to tie the set at 23 all, however Edinboro battled off the Laker comeback going on to win 25-23.
Kate Hennessey (12) and
Beth Brady(11) both finished with double digit kills for Mercyhurst, Kenny led the Lakers in assists with 26 and
Hannah Vuylsteke recorded 25 digs.
The Lakers will be back at the MAC next Friday to host California (PA). The opening serve is slated for 7:05 p.m.
