The Mercyhurst University Volleyball team was back in action at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Friday evening against the visiting Vulcans from California (PA). The Vulcans defeated the Lakers in straight sets.
Cal was victorious in a competitive first half by a score of 25-20. The Lakers were paced in the first set by Hailey Wilson who batted down three kills, and Bath Brady who added two herself. Zoe Gadomski also recorded an ace in the first set for Mercyhurst.
In the second set, the Vulcans led from start to finish as they took the set 15-14. Wilson added three more kills to her total as did Brady.Â
The third set was a hard fought battle for the duration of the set.
Beth Brady gave the Lakers the first point of the set on a kill to give the team some momentum. After the teams went back and forth, it came down to the final points in the set, unfortunately for Mercyhurst, Cal earned the 25-22 victory.
Brady and
Madison Kasper each ended the contest with seven kills for the Lakers, Wilson followed as she finished with six.
Hannah Vuylsteke finished the match with two aces and 18 digs. Kasper and
Maggie Thomas each added three blocks to help the Laker defense.
Mercyhurst will conclude the 2021-22 regular season tomorrow at home vs Seton Hill, match time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
