The Mercyhurst University Volleyball team took the short trip to downtown Erie on Tuesday evening for a PSAC West matchup with Gannon. The Golden Knights came out on top with a 3-0 margin of victory.
In the first set, Gannon jumped out to a 3-0 lead. However, the Lakers returned the favor and scored three straight points of their own to tie the set at 3-3. The Golden Knights then rattled off six consecutive points to jump ahead 9-3. They would not trail once in the set as the final of the first set came to 25-18. Chase Cole and Madison Kasper each had three kills a piece to pace the Laker attack in the first.
The two teams were again knotted up to begin the second as the score stood at 4-4. Gannon then went on a 5-0 scoring run and held their lead through the remainder of the set as the teams played to a 25-17 score. Kasper and sophomore
Maggie Thomas both smacked down two kills a peice and
Zoe Gadomski had two straight aces from the service line for Mercyhurst.
Gannon wrapped up their 23rd win on the campaign as they went on to win the third set 25-14. Kasper ended the match with six kills and Cole followed her with four.
Hannah Vuylsteke had 25 digs as she continues closing in on 2,000 career digs.
The Lakers will next make the trip down I-90 to battle it out with Edinboro University on Saturday. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
