Erie, Pa.—In their first game in the renovated Mercyhurst Athletic Center, the Mercyhurst Men's Basketball team downed the Daemen Wildcats 85-63.
How it Happened
The Wildcats came out of the gate feeding the ball down low and using their size to take an early lead. Head Coach Gary Manchel was forced to call timeout under two minutes into the game with Daemen owning a 7-0 lead.
Steve Cannady scored the first Laker basket of the night after the Laker timeout. Mercyhurst started to claw back from their early deficit.
At the midway point of the first half the Lakers were down eight.
The Lakers started a 21-0 run with just over nine minutes left in the first half. Daemen was held off the scoreboard for almost seven minutes. Mercyhurst had a 10 point lead after the run.
At the half Mercyhurst had a 38-33 lead.
In the second half the Lakers pulled away with their lead growing to 14 under six minutes into the half.
The Laker lead grew to 24 by the end of the game and the Lakers finished with a 22-point win.
By The Numbers
MiyKah McIntosh led the Lakers with 24 points in his 32 minutes on the court. He was 4-8 from behind the arc and collected five boards.
In his first Mercyhurst home game freshman Aiden Reichert played 30 minutes off the bench and had 16 points to go along with four boards.
Steve Cannady, Cameron Gross, and Michael Bradley each had 12 points. Gross and Bradley had four assists as well.
Nicholas Lang was turned in just two points but contributed three steals, three rebounds and five assists.
Mercyhurst as a team had 12 steals and four blocks. The Lakers took advantage of the Wildcat turnovers and had 41 points off turnovers.
The Laker bench also outscored the Daemen bench 23-8 as every Lakers who played scored a point.
