Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Franklin Pierce with a 1-0 win over the Ravens on Saturday.
How it Happened
The Lakers opened the scoring with under three minutes remaining in the open frame. Kristy Pidgeon was the beneficiary of Emily Pinto taking the puck in the Laker zone an driving all the way to the net. Pinto threw the puck towards the front of the net and Pidgeon put it past the keeper's right pad.
Mercyhurst outshot the Ravens 10-4 in the first 20 minutes.
The second period consisted of the Lakers controlling play, but they were unable to put the puck in the back of the net. In the second period, the Lakers outshot Franklin Pierce 14-5 and shots were 24-9 after 40 minutes of play.
The third period was similar to the second as the Lakers controlled the puck along with the pace of play. In the final 20 minutes of play the Lakers tallied 18 shots and allowed just five to make it the goaltender. The Lakers outshot Franklin Pierce 42-14 overall which in the highest amount of shots since Jan. 6, 2021 when they registered 42 shots in a 1-0 loss to RIT.
Jenna Silvonen picked up her third win of the year and second shutout as she made all 14 saves.
We Love The "S" Word
Shutouts are fun. The Lakers have earned two shutouts this season through the first seven games. In the shortened 2020-21 season the Lakers recorded just one shutout against RIT on Jan. 7, 2021. The other shutout this season came on Sept. 25 against RPI, Silvonen made 21 saves.
Home Sweet Home
Erie is home for the Lakers and the Lakers haven't a lost a game in Erie this season. In the shortened 2020-21 season the Lakers went 6-2-1 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. In 2019-20, Mercyhurst was undefeated at home with a record of 12-0-4.

The Lakers close out their run of non-conference games as they travel to Union to face the Dutchman. After playing Union next Friday and Saturday the Lakers return home and open CHA play against reigning CHA Regular Season Champions Penn State.
