Erie, PA --- The Mercyhurst University Volleyball Team will welcome two local teams in Gannon University and Edinboro University to the Mercyhurst Athletic Center this Friday and Saturday. Friday's contest against Gannon will start at 7:05 p.m and the match on Saturday vs. Edinboro will begin at 4:05 p.m.

The Games

When Mercyhurst and Gannon take the court on Friday, it will be the 89th matchup all-time between the two programs. In the previous 88 contests, Gannon holds a 61-27 record. The last time the two schools played one another was in an exhibition match in April of this year. The Golden Knights defeated the Lakers in straight sets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14. 

All time against Edinboro, the Lakers are 11-44, however since 2008 their record is 8-12. Most recently the two teams played in October of 2019. That match was a five set thriller that ultimately saw Edinboro pull out the victory 25-23,19-25, 25-22, 24-26,15-12.

From Last Weekend

Last weekend the Lakers welcomed a pair of PSAC foes into the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers loss to Clarion in straight sets last Friday and then took the opening two sets from IUP on Saturday, however the Crimson Hawks came back to win that one in five sets.

Scouting Gannon

Gannon enters Friday's contest with a 15-3 record. The Golden Knights were receiving votes on the latest AVCA Division ll Coaches Poll. All of the team's defeats have come in five set matches and two of the losses have come against ranked opponents. The sole PSAC loss for Gannon came against Edinboro on Tuesday in a game that was played at Gannon's home arena.

Scouting Edinboro

The Fighting Scots of Edinboro come to Mercyhurst with a 12-1 record. The loan blemish on Edinboro's schedule was the result of a 5-set loss against Shepherd. Nine of the Fighting Scot's 12 wins have come by way of straight set victories.
