Women's Soccer Earns Three Points Against Cal (PA)

California, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team entered Wednesday with a two-game winning streak after wins over Clarion and IUP last week. The Lakers extended their winning streak with a 2-1 win over Cal.

How it Happened

In the 22nd minute the Lakers were able to solve the Cal keeper. Amber Thomas scored her second goal of the season to take the early 1-0 lead. Bethan O'Donnell picked up an assist on the play as Thomas beat the keeper to the top right corner of the net.

Cal tied the game in the 35th minute as Maddie Elbro was beat by a header.

Despite outshooting the Vulcans 12-3, at halftime the Lakers were tied with Cal. After 45 minutes, Mercyhurst didn't allow a corner from the Vulcans while the Lakers drew four for themselves.

The Lakers took the lead in the 69th minute as Emily Mijares scored her team leading fourth goal of the season. Mijares made no mistake as Taryn Baxter crossed the ball into the box and Mijares put it past the keeper.
