Football Set to Host Slippery Rock Saturday

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst football team hosts Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at Saxon Stadium. Kickoff is schedule for noon.

Rushing In 
Mercyhurst got their first rushing touchdown of the season on a one-yard plunge by Joe Carter in overtime. The Lakers had never gone more than three games to start a season without a rushing touchdown since joining the PSAC in 2008.

Keeping it Clean
The Lakers are one of the least penalized teams in the PSAC. They rank second in the conference and 37th in the nation with just 5.86 penalties per game. The Lakers average the second fewest penalty yards per game, 49.14 in the PSAC.

Tommy on the Spot 
Senior linebacker Thomas Zacharyasz recovered his second fumble of the season at the end of regulation against Edinboro on Saturday. His two fumble recoveries are tied for sixth in the country.

Piling Up the Tackles
The linebacker duo of Jacob Holl and Thomas Zacharyasz have led the Mercyhurst defense. The pair continued to climb the tackle rankings after Saturday. Zacharyasz is fourth in the PSAC with 9.1 tackles per game ranking 31st in DII. Holl held steady at seventh in the league with 8.4. The two have combined for 20+ total tackles in each of the last four weeks.

Schaetzle's Final Season
Marty Schaetzle announced that he would retire at the end of the season. In his 20th season, Schaetzle has led the Lakers in two conferences and one PSAC title. Assistant Head Coach Ryan Riemedio has been tabbed the next head coach of the Laker program.

Through the Air
Nine of the Lakers 10 touchdowns have come through the air. Senior quarterback Joe Carter passed for 310 yards and three scores against Edinboro on Saturday. Cameron Barmore hauled in six passes for 106 yards.

Scouting the Rock
Slippery Rock enters with a 6-1 record after dropping a 48-21 decision to IUP last Saturday. Andrew Koester has completed nearly 60 percent of his passes for 2091 yards and 22 touchdowns. Henry Litwin has 35 catches for 633 yards and seven touchdowns. Jermaine Wynn adds 32 catches for 468 yards and five scores. Tim Smith paces the rushing attack with 393 yards and five touchdowns. Tim Vernick has 48 tackles, 5.5 for a loss, as well as one sack and two forced fumbles. Dalton Holt has made 46 tackles. Selvin Haynes and Khadir Roberts have each intercepted a pair of passes.
