Football Falls to No. 25 Cal (PA)

California, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Football team traveled to California, Pa. to take the 25th ranked Vulcans. Mercyhurst fell for the fourth straight week by a score of 37-0.

Cal took the lead with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter as they knocked through a 23 yard after the Lakers gained just four yards on their opening drive.

The Lakers held the nationally ranked Vuclans off the scoreboard for the rest of the first quarter. The second quarter was all Cal as they scored three touchdowns and the Lakers went into half down 24-0.

After halftime, Merychurst held the Vulcans to 13 points but the Laker offense could not take advantage and were held scoreless in the second half.

The Laker offense struggled to get going on Saturday. Michael Lowery, Brian Alsobrooks and Joe Carter each took snaps under center and recorded 99 passing yards with Carter having 72. Chawntez Moss was the leading rusher with 16 yards on seven carries.

Thomas Zacharyas was the leading tackler once again for the Lakers as he recorded eight solo tackles while having two assists. Jacob Holl had 10 total tackles with two solo and eight assists while also forcing a fumble. John Allen notched his first collegiate interception, Joe Impavido recovered a fumble for the other Vulcan turnover.

Mercyhurst returns home next Saturday to face Seton at Saxon Stadium with kickoff slated for noon.
