Field Hockey Falls to #1 Ranked Shippensburg

The Mercyhurst Field Hockey team made the trip to Shippensburg University on Saturday to take on the number one ranked team in the country. Mercyhurst fell in the contest 12-0.

In the first quarter, Shippensburg tallied their first score in the match four minutes and 57 seconds in. The Laker defense held the Raiders scoreless for the remainder of the first quarter.

In the second, Shippensburg scored four goals with under seven minutes remaining in the half to take a 5-0 lead into the break.

Jenna Sluymer and Valu Paul each scored twice in the opening half for Shippensburg.

Sluymer completed her hat trick minutes into the third quarter, her goal made the Shippensburg lead 6-0. The Raiders scored two more times in the quarter to push their lead to 8-0.

In the fourth quarter, Shippensburg added an additional four goals to the scoreboard. Kalah Williams scored twice while Jazmin Petrantonio earned her hat trick on the second to last goal of the game.

Kayla Desormeau and Libby Jones split time in cage for the Lakers. Desormeau had 25 saves and Jones recorded 15 herself.

Next for Mercyhurst, the Lakers will come back home to host West Chester University next Saturday at Saxton Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
