Erie, Pa --- The Mercyhurst University Volleyball team looks to continue their four-game winning streak this week against PSAC West opponents Slippery Rock and Pitt Johnstown. The Lakers will first travel to Slippery Rock on Tuesday with match time scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Following that match the Lakers will head back home where they will host UPJ at 4:05 p.m on Saturday.
The Games
Since 2008, Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock have squared off with one another 19 times with the Lakers winning 11 of those matches. This will be the second time the two schools have matched up this season, Slippery Rock won the first contest in straight sets 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.
Pitt Johnstown and the Lakers will compete for the second time this season as well when the Mountain Cats roll into the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday. In their first contest of the year, Pitt Johnstown defeated Mercyhurst 23-23, 25-21, 25-21, 25-13.Â
From Last Weekend
Last weekend, the Lakers continued their hot streak as they went on to win their third and fourth matches in a row. On Friday, Mercyhurst defeated Seton Hill in a five set thriller 24-26, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12.Â
The Lakers followed up their win on Friday with another on Saturday over California (PA). Mercyhurst beat the Vulcans in four sets 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15.
Beth Brady led the offensive attack for the Lakers, she had 22 kills combined between the two matches.
Hailey Wilson had 22 kills of her own including a game high 13 in the win over Seton Hill.Â
Madison Kasper added 20 of her own.
Hannah Vuylsteke added 45 digs and
Maggie Thomas had 10 blocks to pace the defensive unit.
Scouting Slippery Rock
Slippery Rock will enter Tuesday's contest with a 4-17 overall record and a 1-7 record with the PSAC. "The Rock" currently sits at the bottom of the PSAC West standings with their only conference win coming against the Lakers earlier this year.
Scouting Pitt Johnstown
UPJ enters this week holding an 11-6 overall record with a 4-4 mark in conference play. The Mountain Cats are coming off a straight set loss to Clarion on Saturday.
