CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst volleyball team continued their streak of solid play defeating host Cal U 3-1 Saturday afternoon in PSAC West action.
The Lakers trailed 24-22 in the opening set, but a Cal error and kills from Beth Brady and Maggie Thomas gave Mercyhurst a 25-24 lead. The Vulcans tied the set 25-25 before Thomas recorded another kill and the Vulcans committed an error to give the set to the Lakers 27-25.
In the second, Mercyhurst jumped out to an 18-10 advantage and rode the lead to a 25-21 victory in the second. Cal won the third 25-20, but the Lakers closed out the match in the fourth winning the set 25-15.
Brady paced the Laker attack with 11 kills. Madison Kasper added 10 kills while Thomas turned in nine.
Defensively, Hannah Vuylsteke tallied 26 assists as well as a game high five aces. Thomas put down four blocks while Hailey Wilson chipped in three stuffs.
Alexa Mitchell triggered the offense with 22 set assists.
The Lakers improved to 8-11 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC West. They continue conference play on Tuesday in a 7 p.m. match at Slippery Rock.
