GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Trailing 2-1 after three sets, the Mercyhurst women's volleyball team fought back to claim the final two sets and a vital 3-2 road victory over host Seton Hill Friday night.
In the fourth set and the score tied 9-9, the Lakers went on an 8-2 run to build a 17-11 advantage that they would hold on to for a 25-23 win to force a decisive fifth set.
In the fifth, Mercyhurst built an 11-8 advantage and held off a late Seton Hill charge to take the final set 15-12.
The Griffins took a back-and-forth opening set 26-24 before the Lakers answered with a 26-24 set win of their own. Seton Hill claimed a 25-23 third set win to set up the Laker comeback.
Hailey Wilson led the Mercyhurst offense with 13 kills. Beth Brady and Madison Kasper each tallied 10 kills.
Maggie Thomas and Chase Cole paced the defensive effort with six blocks and four blocks respectively. Hannah Vuylsteke tallied 19 digs.
Alexa Mitchell and Claire Kenny split the setting duties. Mitchell notched a team-high 24 assists while Kenny dished out 19.
The win moves the Lakers to 7-11 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC West. They will continue their road trip on Saturday with a noon showdown with Cal U.
