Hamilton, NY.--- The Mercyhurst Women's Hockey team was defeated by #4 ranked Colgate University on Friday by a score of 5-2. This game marks the first blemish on the teams 2021-22 schedule.
How it Happened
In the first period, the Raiders began by firing as many pucks possible at Mercyhurst's goaltender Ena Nystrom. Colgate outshot Mercyhurst 8-2 in the first. Colgate scored on a score by Malia Schneider, making the game 1-0.
After a back and forth second period, the game remained scoreless going into the final frame. As the third period began, the goals began to widen as Mercyhurst's
Vanessa Upson continued her point streak to four games as she pushed a pass from
Emily Pinto into the back of the net making the score 1-1.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, Colgate's net widened as well. The Raiders scored three straight goals on Mercyhurst to go up 4-1. Colgate scored these three goals just 2:30 apart on the game clock.

Liliane Perreault scored the other Laker goal at the 13:58 mark in the third. Her goal was unassisted and marks Perreault's first goal of her senior campaign.
Colgate concluded the scoring with a last minute empty net goal by Darcie Lappan. Colgate outshot Mercyhurst 32-21.
Ena Nystrom made her second appearance of the season in net for the Lakers. Nystrom saved 27 of the 31 shots she faced.
