Moon Township, Pa. -- Despite another two-goal effort from Jonathan Bendorf the Mercyhurst men's hockey team fell 5-3 to host Robert Morris Staurday night at Clearview Arena.
The Lakers got on the board first when Devon Daniels put a puck on net and the rebound pinballed to Bendorf who beat Noah West to the short side at the 13:38 mark of the first period.
Geoff Kitt extended the lead to 2-0 with the Lakers first shorthanded goal of the season with 1:26 left in the first. Mercyhurst would carry the advantage into the break.
Robert Morris answered with a 4-on-3 power play goal 1:32 into the second period. The 2-1 score would hold to the second intermission.
Bendorf put Mercyhurst up 3-1 when he followed up a Dante Sheriff breakaway and put the puck into a yawning cage off the rebound.
The Colonials would strike three in the next six minutes and change to take the lead and sealed the game with an empty netter with 50 seconds left to set the final.
Paul Maust, Michael Bevilacqua and Joseph Maziarz added assists to go with the helpers from Sheriff and Daniels. Hank Johnson took the loss in net making 38 saves.
The Lakers return to action on Friday night when they return to RIT for a 5:05 p.m. face off with the Tigers.
