BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Steven Ipri scored a pair of goals for the Lakers, but the Mercyhurst men's hockey team came up short in a 3-2 loss at Canisius Saturday night in Atlantic Hockey action from the HarborCenter.
Ipri got the Lakers out to a fast start with a wrap-around goal just 31 seconds into the contest. Mercyhurst took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Canisius tied the game on a Lee Lapid tally. The Griffins took their first lead of the contest at the 14:02 mark on an unassisted goal by Keaton Mastrodonato.
Canisius extended the lead with 1:53 to play. With the net empty, Ipri tallied his second of the contest with four seconds to play to set the final.
Joseph Maziarz and Carson Briere each notched a pair of assists for the Lakers. Hank Johnson took the loss in net making 22 saves.
The Lakers and Griffins square off on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in the second half of their Atlantic Hockey series. Puck drop is set for 3:05 p.m.
