Summer-Rae Dobson scored the overtime game winner as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team won the College Hockey America Championship for the 15th time in program history on Saturday at the Lecom HarborCenter.
The Lakers took down Robert Morris 2-1, with two unanswered goals.
Rachel Marmen and Dobson scored while
Sarah Nelles,
Emily Pinto and
Megan Korzack had assists for Mercyhurst (21-10-5).
Michaela Boyle scored for Robert Morris (20-12-4).
Robert Morris scored 2:04 into the first period to take a 1-0 lead.
Halfway through the third period, Nelles passed it up to Marmen who skated through the Robert Morris defenders and found the back of the net to tied it at 1-1.
Dobson scored 4:19 into overtime to give the Lakers the 2-1 and send them to the NCAA Tournament. Pinto and Korzack had assists.
The Lakers were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Colonials were 0-for-3.
Kennedy Blair made 31 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Raygan Kirk made 20 saves in net for Robert Morris.
The Lakers await their next opponent for the NCAA Tournament. The selection show is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 9:00 p.m.
Blair was named the MVP of the Tournament while
Jordan Mortlock and Dobson were named to the All-Tournament Team.
