No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Dragons

TIFFIN, Ohio - The No. 20 Mercyhurst women's lacrosse team had three players post multi-goal games as they rebounded nicely from their first setback of the season with a comfortable 19-9 win on the road at Tiffin University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Lakers got out to a quick start with Emma Hubert and Brenna Fosco beating Alex Sklack in the opening two minutes to lead 2-0.  Elle Hamilton put the home team on the board with an unassisted tally with 2:24 gone cutting it down to 2-1.  Lacey Netti setup Hubert's second of the contest and Payton Cook found Molly Meegan at the 5:40 mark extending the advantage to 4-1.  Fosco buried her second of the afternoon to make it 5-1, before Hamilton added two more trimming the gap to just 5-3.  Hubert put away goals three and four of the day, but Daniela Carey along with Danielle Roberts kept Tiffin hanging around at 7-5 with under five minutes to go.  Mercyhurst closed the half on a 3-0 run, with markers from Paige Cocina, Julia Rescott and Hubert to lead 10-5 at the break.

Carey and Hamilton both slipped shots past Lakers goalie Kaitlyn Lippert to give the home side life, 10-7 with 1:47 elapsed.  Marissa Comerate scored the visitors first of the period, before Fosco found both Torie Sullivan and Rescott pushing the margin to 13-7 not even ten minutes into the half.  The Netti to Rescott connection made it 14-7, however, Emily Chapman brought the margin back to 14-8 still with 16:24 remaining.  Rescott picked up goals two and three of the period in a 48-second span extending the lead to eight, 16-8.  Roberts netted her second of the day with an unassisted marker at the 15:49 mark.  Gina Perna, Rescott and Netti all buried unassisted goals to cap off the scoring at 19-9.

Mercyhurst held a 39-17 edge in shots (33-16 on goal).  The Lakers also were a positive in groundballs (19-13) and draw controls (16-13).  Mercyhurst was flawless in the clear game going 15-15, while Tiffin went 13-16.  The Dragons were 4-7 on free position chances, with the Lakers converting 1-3.

Netti had eight points (one goal and seven assists).  Rescott added six goals, while both Hubert and Fosco chipped in five points each combining for seven goals to go along with three helpers.  Mackenzie Murphy had a team-high four groundballs, followed by Kira Kolb (3), Beca McGwin (2), Netti (2), and Cocina (2).  Three Lakers posted mult-draw control victories Kolb (7), Comerate (4) and Meegan (3).  Lippert made seven saves in net.

Hamilton, Carey and Roberts combined for eight points on eight goals.  Leah Davis and Hamilton each won five draws.  Sklack knocked away 14 shots.
