Anderson Nets Two, But Lakers Fall to Canisius

ERIE, Pa. - James Anderson scored a pair of goals, but it was not enough as the Canisius Golden Griffins upended the Lakers by a final of 3-2 on Friday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Atlantic Hockey Association action.

Canisius was on the board first thanks to Matt Hoover who lit the lamp at the 10:46 mark of the first thanks to the setup by Nick Hutchison and Lee Lapid.

Then in the second, the visitors struck again when Keaton Mastrodonato took advantage of his own rebound after Garrett Metcalf made the initial stop to put the guest ahead 2-0.

The Lakers hit board with 8:49 gone in period two as Dalton Hunter tipped a Gueorgui Feduolov offering at cage, but it was turned away by Griffins goalie Jacob Barczewski.  However, Anderson was there to shuffle home the loose puck off the backhand to make it 2-1.

Mastrodonato would bag his second of the frame just over two minutes later extending the margin to 3-1.  Mercyhurst attempted to begin a comeback in the final minute of the period as Anderson banked home a shot from below the goal line off of Barczewski's back and into the cage cutting it to 3-2 after 40-minutes.

In the third period the Lakers fired eight shots at Barczewski, but he denied all eight attempts to hang on for the 3-2 win.

Canisius held a 40-23 edge in shots and won 40 of 72 draws.

Anderson and Feduolov combined for two goals and two assists for four points.  Owen Norton and Hunter also each tallied an assist.  Metcalf made 20 saves in net.
