Lakers Drop Regular Season and Series Finale to Canisius

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team closed out their regular season campaign with 6-0 setback at the hands of the Golden Griffins from Canisius University on Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Atlantic Hockey Association action.

The Lakers recorded the first shot of the game when Dalton Hunter was denied by Jacob Barczewski.  Canisius picked up their opening marker thanks to Mitchell Martan who took advantage of the setup from Keaton Mastrodonato.  The Golden Griffins added one more before the end of the period at the 7:27 mark coming from Lee Lapid on the power play after Gueorgui Feduolov was boxed for boarding.

Canisius made it 3-0 just 39-seconds into the second as Matt Hoover buried the puck past home goalie Colin DeAugustine.  A penalty on Owen Norton for cross-checking resulted in seven visiting shots, before Nick Hutchison deposited one to the back of the cage for the 4-0 cushion with 4:42 gone.  Matt Long chipped in one more 3:50 later leaving Canisius ahead 5-0 after 40-minutes.

Blake Wareham tallied the final goal of the game 88-seconds into the final period resulting in the final scoreline.

Canisius outshot the Lakers 42-31 and held a 35-30 advantage at the faceoff dot.

Feduolov had a team-high eight shots and won nine draws. DeAugustine knocked 36 shots away.

Six different players scored for the Golden Griffins.  Barczewski made 21 saves, while Matt Ladd turned away 10 shots in the third period.
