ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team took down Robert Morris 5-3 during College Hockey America action on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Emma Nuutinen scored two goals while
Michele Robillard had one goal and two assists.
Maggie Knott and
Megan Korzack had the other goals.
Summer-Rae Dobson had two assists while
Rachel Marmen Emily Pinto had single assists for Mercyhurst (16-9-4, 10-3-2).
Jaycee Gebhard, Lexi Templeman and Michaela Boyle scored for Robert Morris (16-10-3. 10-4-1).
Mercyhurst got on the board and took a 2-0 lead quickly in the first period.
At 5:35 of the first period, Pinto fed Knott with a perfect pass in front of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Less than one minute later, Dobson slid the puck over to Nuutinen and she found the back of the net.
Robert Morris scored two minutes later with a goal from Gebhard to cut the Lakers lead to 2-1.
During the second period, Dobson passed the puck over to Robillard who dished it to Korzack on the 2-on-1 Korzack and she put it home to make it 3-1.
Robert Morris scored with four second left in the second, on the power play to again cut the lead to one goal.
At 15:53 of the third period, Robillard took the puck shorthanded down the ice and dangled passed Robert Morris goaltender Raygan Kirk to make it 4-2 Lakers.
Templeman scored for the Colonials to bring them within one on the power play, but it wasn't enough as Nuutinen scored the empty net goal with assists from Robillard and Marmen.
Jenna Silvonen made 27 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Kirk made 34 saves in net for Robert Morris.
The Lakers were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Colonials were 2-for-7.
