ERIE, Pa. -- The Laker men's hockey team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to visiting Clarkson Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
After a back-and-forth regulation, the Lakers took a tripping call in the extra period and the Golden Knights capitalized on the power play at the 3:05 mark on a one-timer by Connor McCarthy.
With the score tied at two,
Dante Sheriff scored his first collegiate goal to put Mercyhurst up 3-2, settling the puck on a cross crease pass from
Josh McDougall and rip a shot short side with just 3:35 to play. Anthony Callin tied the game up with goal pulled at the 18:23 mark in a net front scrum.
Austin Heidemann put the Lakers on the board first with his first collegiate goal at the 10:37 mark of the first.
Mathieu Gosselin tied the game just 17 seconds later to send the teams to the first intermission tied 1-1-.
Charlie Campbell gave the Golden Knights their first lead at the 12:42 mark of the second.
Steven Ipri provided the equalizer when he stepped away from traffic in the slot and picked a corner with 4:40 left to play in the second.
Carson Briere was the only Laker with multiple points picking up a pair of helpers.
Cade Townend,
Joseph Maziarz and McDougall also picked up helpers for the Lakers.
Hank Johnson took the loss between the pipes making 29 saves.
The Lakers are back in action on Sunday when they host Clarkson at 4 p.m. in the series finale at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
