Cmunt Nets First Collegiate Goal; Lakers Fall Short in Series Opener with Bentley

ERIE, Pa. -- Six of the games seven goals were scored in an eight-minute span of the second period as the Mercyhurst men's hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting Bentley Friday night. 

Geoff Kitt knotted the score at 3-3 with 7:49 gone in the second, but the Falcons answered when Charlie Marchand jumped on a rebound off a Will Garin shot at the 8:51 mark to set the final. 

The Lakers led 1-0 at the first intermission and Brendan Riley extended the lead to 2-0 with his first of the season just 36 seconds into the second period.  



Bentley got on the board at the 2:51 mark on a goal from Connor Brassard and tied the game 43 seconds later on a Jonathan Desbiens shot off a faceoff. 

Lucas Vanroyboys gave the Falcons their first lead with a tally at 6:39. Kitt finished a tic-tac-toe passing play to tie the game 1:10 later. 





Justin Cmunt got the scoring started with his first collegiate goal at the 12:27 mark of the first period when his sharp-angle shot snuck short side on Aiden Pelino. 



Riley picked up a goal and an assist. Paul Maust recorded a pair of assists on the night. 

Garrett Metcalf took the loss between the pipes making 22 saves on the night.  

The Lakers and Falcons conclude their season series on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drop is set for 4:05 p.m.
