ERIE, Pa. --
Paul Maust and
Jonathan Bendorf each tallied their first collegiate goal as the Mercyhurst men's hockey team defeated visiting Robert Morris 2-1 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Friday night.
After a tight checking, scoreless first period, it was Maust that broke the ice.
Geoff Kitt carried the puck down the wing and dropped it to Maust who went off the post, high blocker just 1:09 into the second.
Just 3:19 later, Bendorf snapped a shot home from the high slot that also beat Kapelmaster high over the blocker extending the Laker advantage to 2-0. Mercyhurst would kill off a pair of penalties including 36 seconds of 5-on-3 to take the two-goal lead into the second break.
The Colonials got one back on the power play when Justin Addamo found the puck after a blocked shot to trim the lead to 2-1.
Garrett Metcalf and the Laker defense slammed the door keeping Robert Morris off the board over the final 12:25 to secure the victory.
Six different Lakers gathered a point with Kitt,
Devon Daniels,
Ashton Stockie and
Joseph Maziarz picking up the assists on the goals by Maust and Bendorf.
Metcalf garnered First Star honors making 36 saves, including 15 in the third period, while conceding just one goal and picking up the win between the pipes.
The Lakers and Colonials close out their season series on Saturday when they play at 7:05 p.m. at the Colonial Arena.
