ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's hockey team dropped a 9-3 decision to visiting Sacred Heart Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Hockey play at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Pioneers held a 5-3 advantage after two periods and then scored four times in the third to set final.
Sacred Heart lead 4-1 in the second
Dalton Hunter tipped a
Josh McDougall shot from the point on the power play to trim the lead to 4-2 with 6:16 elapsed in the second.
Geoff Kitt pulled the Lakers within one just over two minutes later when he wired a shot high over the glove of Josh Benson.
Paul Maust picked up his first collegiate point with an assist on the Kitt tally.
Sacred Heart pushed the lead 5-3 when a close call at the blueline went the Pioneers way and Mike Lee found the back of the net.
Austin McIlmurray got the scoring started with a goal 7:18 into the first.
Steven Ipri picked up his eighth goal of the season when he finished a tic tac toe play from
Dalton Hunter and
Jonathan Bendorf to knot the score at one.
The Pioneers scored twice before the end of the first to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.
Hunter recorded a pair of points three shots to lead the Lakers.
Garrett Metcalf took the loss in net making 12 saves.
Colin DeAugustine made 20 saves in relief.
The Lakers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Robert Morris in a make-up date from Nov. 29. Tickets from the game on the 29th will be honored. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m.
