SYRACUSE, N.Y. –
Maggie Knott scored with 0.1 left in overtime to lead the Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team to a 4-3 win over Syracuse during College Hockey America action on Saturday.
Michele Robillard and
Alexa Vasko recorded a goal and an assist while
Rachel Marmen had the another goal.
Summer-Rae Dobson and
Gabrielle Cox had two assists while
Kennedy Blair had one assist for Mercyhurst (12-8-2, 6-2-0).
Madison Beishyizen, Mae Batherson and Lindsay Eastwood scored for Syracuse (6-14-1, 5-2-1).
Robillard opened the scoring for the game with her ninth goal of the season in a scramble in front of the net. Cox earned her first collegiate point with the primary assists. Vasko also had an assist on the goal.
During the second period, Syracuse scored two goals to take a 2-1 lead.
Marmen then scored on the breakaway when she went five-hole and tied the game at 2-2. Dobson and Blair had assists.
Vasko then put in the rebound shot from Dobson to give Mercyhurst its lead back. Robillard also had an assist.
During the third period, Eastwood scored to tie the game back up at 3-3 and send it into overtime.
During overtime the Lakers held possession the whole time before Knott scored to give Mercyhurst a 4-3 win. Cox had an assist.
The Lakers went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Orange were 0-for-4.
Blair made 27 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Ady Cohen made 39 saves in net for Syracuse.
The Lakers are back in action on Jan, 17-18 when they host Penn State at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Puck drops at 3:05 p.m. on Friday and 2:05 p.m. on Saturday,
Saturday's game is the first annual Autism Awareness game. The first 100 fans will receive a free t-shirt. The Lakers will also be wearing special Autism Awareness jerseys that can be purchased for $125.
