ERIE, Pa. –
Mario Castel recorded one goal and one assist for the Mercyhurst men's soccer team as it played to a 2-2 tie with non-conferences opponent Urbana (Ohio) during its season opener on Thursday at Saxon Field.
Ian Harris also scored for the Lakers, while Hass Gorji scored for Urbana.
Urbana (0-0-1) got on the board first with a Mercyhurst (0-0-1) own goal off of a header during the 22nd minute.
Harris then evened the match out at 1-1 during the 35th minute off of a corner kick from Castel.
Gorji scored with an assist from Luke Nicholls in the 40th minute to give Urbana a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
With seven minutes remaining in regulation, Castel beat Urbana goaltender Jakob Henriksen to the top right corner off the free kick to tie the game and send it into extra time.

Alexander Paul blocked a shot to keep Mercyhurst alive and eventually end the game in a 2-2 tie.
The Lakers are back in action on Sept. 8 when they travel to Ohio Dominican for their four straight away game stretch. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
