Nuutinen Records Hat Trick, Blair Earns Shutout in 4-0 Win Over Guelph

ERIE, Pa. – Emma Nuutinen scored a hat trick and Kennedy Blair recorded a shutout as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team defeated the University of Guelph 4-0 on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center during its exhibition game.
 
Rachel Marmen scored the other Laker goal. Sam Isbell, Michele Robillard, Marmen and Nuutinen picked up assists.
 
After a scoreless first period, Nuutinen scored her first goal of the game 12 seconds into the second period, shorthanded, to get the Lakers on the board first.
 
On the power play, Nuutinen picked up her second goal of the night with assists from Isbell and Marmen at 11:02 of the second period.
 
During the third period, Marmen scored a power play goal to extend the Lakers' lead to 3-0. Nuutinen and Robillard picked up assists.
 
At 14:06 of the third period, Nuutinen finished off her hat trick to give Mercyhurst a 4-0 win.
 
Between the pipes, Blair was perfect in net with 14 saves. For Guelph, Aurore Beaulieu made 36 saves.
 
The Lakers start the regular season on Oct. 4-5 when they travel to Colgate for a two game non-conference weekend series. Puck drops at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
