Football Travels to Bloomsburg Saturday

The Mercyhurst University football team makes their first road trip of the season when they visit Bloomsburg for a 2 p.m. showdown with the Huskies.

Six Points for Saturday
200 Wins: The Laker football program is currently at 199 wins. Head coach Marty Schaetzle has been at the helm for 88 of those victories.

Toting the Rock: Redshirt junior Garrett Owens went for 117 yards and two touchdowns in last weeks win over Lake Erie. It was the seventh 100-yard performance of his career. In those seven games the Lakers hold a 6-1 record.

All-Time Leading Passer: With 205 yards passing on Saturday, Doug Altavilla became the Lakers all-time leading passer with 6,731. Altavilla is also just 443 yards shy of breaking the Mercyhurst record for total offense. Kissell has 7,087 yards of total offense.

On the Road: The Lakers make their first road trip of the season and their only road trip in the first five games of season. The Lakers return home after facing the Huskies for home games with IUP and Slippery Rock.

Turnover Battle: In the opener the Lakers won the turnover battle recording two fumble recoveries and an interception and were a +1 against Shepherd. Mercyhurst converted those turnovers into 10 points.

Spreading the Ball: Four different Lakers carried the ball and eight different receivers hauled in at least one pass agaisnt Shepherd. Garrett Owens recorded 14 carries and two receptions while Austin Hence led the receivers with six catches for 111 yards and a score.

Scouting the Huskies:
Bloomsburg is coming off a 24-21 come from behind victory over Edinboro. They average 19.0 points per game and 194 yards per contest. Qmac Quiteh leads Bloomsburg with 62 rushing yards while Michael Allen adds nine catches for 84 yards to lead the receiving corps. Tyshaun Pollard is the Huskies' leading tackler with 15 stops, five solo.
