ERIE, Pa. –
Alyssa Otto scored twice while
Vilde Wold earned her third straight shutout, as the Mercyhurst women's soccer team defeated cross town rival Gannon 3-0 on Wednesday at Saxon Stadium.
Maia Russo scored the other goal for the Lakers.
Emilie Bock,
Taryn Baxter and Otto picked up one assist each on the night.
Otto scored her first goal of the game during the 30th minute, to get the Lakers on the board.
One minute and thirty-one seconds into the second half, Bock sent the ball up to Otto who took a few steps towards the goal and buried it past Gannon goaltender Kennedy Solymosi.
Russo gave Mercyhurst a 3-0 lead with help from Otto and Baxter in the 65th minute. Baxter passed it in to Otto who crossed it over to Russo for the goal.
In net,
Vilde Wold stayed perfect on the year making six saves. Solymosi made three saves for Gannon.
The Golden Knights held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks and a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
This marks the Lakers first win over Gannon since the 2013 season.
The Lakers are back in action on Sept. 21 when they host PSAC opponent Slippery Rock at 7:00 p.m. on Saxon Stadium.
