ERIE, Pa. – For the first time in program history the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team has former, current and future players attending National Hockey League Development Camps this summer.
 
Derek Barach '19 will be attending with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Joseph Duszak with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Garrett Metcalf with the Anaheim Ducks and incoming freshman Cade Townend with the Ottawa Senators. 
 
Columbus, Anaheim and Ottawa will take place the last week of June. Toronto's dates have not yet been released.
 
Barach signed a contract with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, the affiliate of the Blue Jackets. At the end of last season, he recorded seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 15 regular season games with the Monsters. He also played in eight playoff games while tallying one goal.
 
Duszak signed a contract with the Maple Leafs at the end of last season. He played two regular season games with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. He also appeared in four playoff games recording his first professional goal. 
 
Metcalf is a redshirt-senior this upcoming season for the Lakers. He has seen action in 15 games for Mercyhurst while recording a .902 save percentage and 3.28 goals against average. Metcalf has also recorded one shutout.
 
Townend is set to begin his college career with the Lakers this season. He has spent the last three seasons with the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canadian Hockey League. He played in 161 regular season games while scoring 17 goals and added 53 assists for 70 points. Townend also appeared in 33 playoff contests and picked up three points.
