Baseball Drops First Two Games of Weekend Series Against Gannon

ERIE, Pa.-- The Mercyhurst baseball team dropped today's doubleheader to Gannon to open the weekend series. With Gannon taking the first two games of the series, the Golden Knights now have a two game lead for first place in the PSAC West over the Lakers. 

Game One Recap (L, 6-0):
  • Hunter Snyder and Matthew Gibson recorded the Lakers' two hits
  • Christian Young got the loss in game one going five innings, allowing five hits, recording seven strikeouts and allowing three earned runs
  • For Gannon, Ian Hess broke the scoreless game in the fourth with a solo homerun
  • Gannon Tacked on two more in each the fifth and sixth inning to go up 5-0 and added insurance in the 7th off a wild pitch for a final 6-0
  • Deven Judy pitched a complete game and recorded a shutout, only allowing two hits and recording 12 strikeouts
Game Two Recap (L, 2-1):
  • For Mercyhurst (28-10), Hunter Snyder, Alex O'Donnell, Josh Surowiec and Domenic DeRenzo all had one hit each
  • Hunter Snyder recorded the only run for the Lakers with a crucial solo homerun to tie the game 1-1 in the sixth
  • On the rubber, Matthew Minnick pitched six innings allowing one earned run off a solo homer with three hits as well
  • Minnick also picked up his 100th strikeout on the year with 98 coming into the contest
  • Jared Kapturasky picked up the loss allowing the final run of the game cross the plate in the seventh
  • For Gannon (30-12), Nate Cardy broke the scoreless game with a solo homerun in the fourth inning to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead
  • After MU tied the game off the Snyder homer, Trey Zeroski singled up the middle to score Callahan
  • Mercyhurst couldn't answer back and would drop the second game as well, 2-1
Next Up:
  • The Mercyhurst Lakers will travel to Gannon tomorrow for the second half of the weekend series
  • First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM
