Lakers Split Doubleheader at Seton Hill on Monday

GREENSBURG, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team split the second half of the doubleheader on Monday against Seton Hill, going 1-3 on the weekend.

Game One (W, 9-3):
The Lakers were in need of a win after losing the first two games of the series and got it done in game three.  Tyler Garbee was on the rubber for Mercyhurst and pitched a complete game.  Garbee recorded eight strikeouts allowed eight hits and three runs. This was his fourth win on the year for the Lakers (4-2).

On the offensive side of things, Alex O'Donnell and Josh Surowiec both led the Lakers with three hits each. O'Donnell also had 2 RBI in the first game, right behind Dom DeRenzo who had team high 3 RBI off a three-run homer.

Losing Pitcher was Griffin's own, Christian Seelhorst (1-2) got the loss going two innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

In the bottom of the first, Seton Hill's Chuba hit a homerun to give the Griffins an early 1-0 lead.  Chuba would then increase the lead to 2-0 with another homerun. Garbee wouldn't allow Seton Hill to add to its 2-0 in the third getting two of the three outs via strikeout.

In the fourth, the Griffins would add a little another run making it 3-0 going into the top of the 5th.  The Laker bats would finally come to life in the 5th when Hunter Snyder hit in Zach Mitchell for their first run of the game.  O'Donnell would keep the sticks going with a double down the right field line scoring Jack Elliott and Snyder to give the Lakers a 4-3 lead.
DeRenzo get in on the action hitting a three run homer to give Mercyhurst a 7-3 lead.

MU would add a few late runs off a Matthew Schneider double that scored O'Donnell and a Surowiec single through the right side.  This would allow Schneider to score as well giving the Lakers a 9-3 lead.   Garbee dialed in and didn't allow another Griffin to cross home plate giving MU the game one victory, 9-3.

Game Two (L, 10-4):

Jack Elliott led the Lakers with two hits and also recorded an RBI.  O'Donnell and Schneider also had one RBI each in the loss.

Russell Lamovec (3-2) would get the loss for the Lakers, going three innings, allowing seven hits, seven earned runs and recorded six strikeouts.

Seton Hill started off the second with two homeruns again in the early innings to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.  SHU tacked onto the lead with six more runs through four to make it 8-0 Griffins. Mercyhurst (19-8, 10-6) showed some life in the 5th scoring three runs (two of walks) with Elliott scoring off a Surowiec groundout.

Seton Hill would add two more to the board making it 10-3 before Jack Elliott singled to right field scoring Gibson for the Lakers final run of the game.  Seton Hill would take game two 10-4 and the weekend PSAC series 3-1.
