Men's Ice Hockey Stunned In OT By Army

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team lost in overtime to Army West Point, 3-2, in an Atlantic Hockey Tournament contest on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Black Knights now have a 1-0 lead in a best-of-three series.

Derek Barach had one goal and one assist for the Lakers while Matthew Whittaker also tallied a goal. Joseph Duszak made two assists and James Anderson dished one assist.

Goaltender Stefano Cantali totaled 41 saves in net.

For Army, Dalton MacAfee scored two goals and Dominic Franco had the OT game-winner. Assists were recorded to Alex Wilkinson, Trevor Fidler, Zach Evancho and Mason Krueger.

Mercyhurst never led in the contest, having to come back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.

MacAfee gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the first period before Whittaker evened the score at 1-1 with a power-play goal during the second. Duszak and Barach had assists on the Whittaker tally.

MacAfee scored his second goal on the power play. It came in the second period, giving the Knights a 2-1 edge.

Barach tied the game at 2-all with 14:23 remaining in the third.

Franco's game-winner came with 4:02 left in the overtime period. He blocked a Mercyhurst shot in the Knight defensive zone and scored on a breakaway.

Matt Penta was the winning goaltender with 33 saves.
