ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell to Army West Point, 5-1, on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The loss resulted in elimination from the Atlantic Hockey Tournament for the Lakers, who lost two games to Army during the weekend.
Josh McDougall had the lone MU goal. He received assists from
Taylor Best and
Steven Ipri.
Laker goaltender
Garrett Metcalf totaled 46 saves.
Mason Krueger had two goals and one assist to lead Army. Dominic Franco, Trevor Fidler and Daniel Haider also had goals. Brendan Soucie made three assists.
McDougall gave Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead in the first period, scoring on the power play. The advantage was short-lived as the Black Knights evened the tally at 1-1 just two minutes later on a power-play goal by Franco.
During the second period, the Knights scored three goals in a span of 2:36, including two by Krueger, to seize a 4-1 lead.
Fidler tacked on the fifth Army goal with 3:32 remaining in the third.
Matt Penta was the winning goalie for AWP, finishing with 28 stops.
