Men's Ice Hockey Drops Regular-Season Finale To RMU; Lakers To Face Army In AHA Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell to Robert Morris, 4-3, in an Atlantic Hockey regular-season finale on Saturday. With the result, the Lakers finished seventh in the Atlantic Hockey standings and will host 10th-place Army West Point in a first-round AHA Tournament series on Mar. 8-10.

Steven Ipri, Joshua Lammon and Matthew Whittaker had the Laker goals. Owen Norton made two assists while Derek Barach and Dalton Hunter added one each.

Barach's point moved into third place all-time on MU's career points list. He now has 142 career points.

RMU goals were scored by Sean Giles, Aidan Girduckis, Jacob Coleman and Luke Lynch.

The host Colonials jumped ahead 1-0 on Coleman's goal early in the first period before Lammon tied the contest with assists from Hunter and Norton. However, that tie was short-lived as Girduckis put RMU back in front 25 seconds later.

A power-play goal Ipri -- with an assist from Norton -- pulled Mercyhurst into a 2-2 tie in the second before RMU put in back-to-back goals.

Giles gave Robert Morris a 3-2 lead during the second and Lynch expanded the gap to 4-2 in the third.

Whittaker pulled the Lakers within one with 6:32 remaining, getting an assist from Barach, for the game's final score.

Colin DeAugustine was the Mercyhurst goaltender, finishing with 29 saves. Francis Marotte had 40 stops in the win for Robert Morris.

Mercyhurst was 1-for-7 on the power play while the Colonials went 1-for-2.

Puck-drop times for each AHA Tournament contest against Army will be 7:05 p.m. Games will be contested on Friday and Saturday. The if-necessary game is slated for Sunday. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
