Men's Ice Hockey Falls To Robert Morris In OT; Barach Now Tied For Third All-Time In Career Points

ERIE, Pa. -- Derek Barach scored two goals and moved into a tie for third on Mercyhurst's all-time career points list as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team dropped a 5-4 decision to Robert Morris in overtime during Atlantic Hockey action on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Tommaso Bucci and Dalton Hunter tacked on one score apiece for MU (13-17-5, 11-12-5).

Joseph Duszak, Joshua Lammon and Jeremy Wu had two assists apiece. Matthew Whittaker added one helper.

Alex Tonge led the RMU effort with three goals, including the game-winner, and one assist. Michael Louria added one goal and two assists.

Bucci got the Lakers on the board just 40 seconds into the contest. Duszak and Lammon had assists.

From that point, the teams played scoreless hockey until combining for seven goals in the third period.

Tonge tied the game at 1-1 before Barach's first goal came on the power play to put MU back into the lead, 2-1. Whittaker and Lammon assisted the Barach goal.

Louria and Tonge then scored back-to-back goals -- Tonge did so on the power play -- as the visiting Colonials took a 3-2 lead.

Hunter tipped home a goal off a shot from Wu to tie the contest at 3-3. Addamo gave RMU a 4-3 advantage with 6:41 left before Barach's second goal tied the game with 4:53 to go.

Tonge's game-winner came 34 seconds into extra-time and on the power play.

Stefano Cantali had 37 saves for Mercyhurst while Francis Marotte stopped 34 shots for Robert Morris.

With two points, Barach increased his career-point total to 141 points, tying Scott Champagne (2003-07) for third all-time in Laker history.

With the loss, MU will finish sixth, seventh or eighth in the Atlantic Hockey standings, meaning the Lakers will host a first-round AHA Tournament series on Mar. 8-10 at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

The Lakers and Colonials will meet again in Pittsburgh on Saturday, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
