ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst women's basketball team dropped a 73-65 contest to PSAC opponent Clarion on Wednesday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
Emily Shopene was the Lakers' leading scorer, finishing with 17 points.
Amber Renz added 12 points and
Kori Sidwell finished with 11 points and four steals for Merchurst (8-14, 5-10).
Jordan Bekelja led Clarion (8-14, 2-13) with 22 points and Kadijah Dickson had a double-double, consisting of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Yndiah Bobo contributed 13 points, five assists and five steals.
The visiting Golden Eagles broke a 12-all tie with a nine-point run across the first and second quarters. CU led at halftime, 38-27, and led by as many as 22 before Mercyhurst made a fourth-quarter push.
The Lakers outscored Clarion, 23-13, in the final period. They went on an 8-0 run -- a jumper by
Jenna Kunst, a 3-pointer by Shopene and a 3 by Chessar -- to close the gap to 69-62 with 1:10 to go, but Clarion held on the rest of the way.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 13, with a 5:30 p.m. PSAC contest at Slippery Rock.
