GLENVILLE, WV.—Mercyhurst baseball comes out on top in both doubleheaders against Glenville State. The Lakers took the first game 3-2 and the second, 8-4.
Game One
Matthew Gibson had two of the Lakers three hits with
Dominic Cecere having the other.
Alex O'Donnell, Jack Elliot and Cecere all had one RBI in the win
In the second inning, Cecere singled to right field breaking the scoreless tie as Matt Gibson crossed home plate for the Lakers to take an early 1-0 lead. In the third, the Pioneers would make noise of their own scoring two runs and taking the lead 2-1.
The Pioneers would maintain its 2-1 lead over the Lakers until Jose Rodriguez came in to relieve Rigglman. MU would not let Rodriguez settle in after he walked Gibson. After a walk, and a few errors from Glenville State, the Lakers managed to score two more runs on of an O'Donnell hit that would be recorded as a fielder's choice error and a Jack Elliot fly out that would be deep enough into the outfield for Cecere to score from third.
MU would hold onto the lead from the pitching of
Christian Young and
Tyler Garbee in the final innings.
The winning pitcher was Young (1-0) who pitched 5.2 innings, allowed five hits and struck out six. Garbee recorded the save pitching 1.1 innings, allowing only one hit and retiring two.
Jose Rodriguez would be the losing pitcher. Rodriguez pitched two innings, allowing one earned run, no hits and walked two.
Game Two
Jack Elliot led the Lakers in hits recording three and also had three RBI.
Alex O'Donnell,
Dominic Cecere and Matt Gibson all had two hits apiece in the win.
After Glenville State (0-4) scored in the first, Mercyhurst (2-1) answered in the second with four runs of its own. With two men on base,
Dominic Cecere singled to left scoring
Jordan Zilka. The next at-bat, Jack Elliot singled to first base scoring Cecere and Matt Gibson.
Alex O'Donnell would then score on a wild pitch making the score at the end of the fourth, 4-1 MU.
Picking up in the fifth, the Lakers were up 6-3 before an O'Donnell double to right allowed two Lakers to cross home plate making the score 8-3. In the sixth, the Pioneers were able to score a run but wouldn't be enough to slow down the Lakers. MU would win game two, 8-4.

James Filippelli (1-0) pitching three innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs and recorded one strikeout
Jacob Williams (0-1) recorded his first loss of the season after pitching three innings, allowing seven hits, five earned runs and striking out three.
